The 2008 presidential elections have never played such a huge part in poular culture before. It is no secret that people between the ages of 18-25 are the most frequent users of websites like,,, and many more. Therefore it would seem convenient and effective for presidential candidates to use these forms of new media to target young vote.

Several presidential candidates have set up profiles that provide viewers with info about the campaign and how to get involved in it, as well as the candidates blogs and promotional videos.

It seems that in this elections the two candiadtes that use new media most efficiently are Barack Obama and Ron Paul. Both of them have tons of promotional videos, blogs, myspace and facebook sites and seem to have gained many followers by using the internet to their full advantage. USA today reported recently that Ron Paul managed to raise over $ 6 million in internet donations in a 24 hour period, which is truly remarkable.
