This is my second episode how to make a smoothie

This is my third episode showing how to make a fruit and vegetable juice

New media is definitely playing a big and important role in the 2008 election. Obama is doing a great example of this by having a my-space and face-book page and his music video on Utube. The republican candidate are not showing much involvement in using new media technologies I have seemed to notice. Hillary Clinton does have a video but Obama is definitely doing a better job at reaching out to younger people because of the fact that he is using new media technology.

Episode1

The last three chapters of We the Media were an interesting read and I learned quite a few things.  Chapter ten talked about defamation and libel and the law, and how most bloggers work is punditry, which means that it involves linking to someone else’s work, and then commenting on it, so it is hard to libel it. The chapter also talked about how bloggers tend to write about public figures. The chapter stated “You can’t libel a public figure, even if the story is false, unless you publish it with what’s called “malice,” which in this instance means either the standard definition of the word or indifference to whether the story is true or not.”  Chapter eleven was about copyright and cookies.  I have always heard about cookies but never knew what it meant when applied to the internet.  Apparently cookies was created in the mid-1990s by Netscape. Cookies are “little files placed on users’ computers that allowed the owner of a web site to track where visitors went, and when.”  There is both a good and a bad side of cookies.  The good side is that without them some personalized pages like yahoo would not exist, the bad side is that it basically spies on your every move on the internet.  Chapter twelve sums up the whole book, overall reading We the Media, got me to understand more about the world of on-line journalism, and learn how the internet is shaping and changing it every day.

I was not sure what I wanted to do for my final project but I decided that I will do it on series of shows making smoothies. I used to work at Jamba Juice in high school and now I work at a smoothie and fresh squeezed juice bar so I will be showing some recipes that I created on my own.

As I continue to read “We the Media” I learn more new different things.  In chapter seven I learned about Indymedia (Independent Media Center), of which I have never heard of before until reading chapter seven.  The project was founded in 1999 by a group of antiglobalization activists who wanted to cover the Seattle World Trade Organization meeting in ways that the traditional media would not. With a newsletter and web site, Indymedia drew a large audience and a visit from the FBI that brought the group considerably more attention By 2003 Indymedia had dozens of affiliates in the United States and around the world.  Chapter seven also talked about how many blogs are self absorbed according to many critics, and may only be of interest to friends and family.  I agree with Gillmor however that although there are many blogs like that, there are also many blogs written by people who want to write intelligently about a certain expertise. In chapter eight I learned about Moore’s law founded by Gordon Moore cofounder of computer chip maker Intel. Chapter eight also talked about Metcalfe’s law, Metcalfe was the inventor of Ethernet.  The example of Metcalfe’s law that Moore states is “If there’s only one fax machine in the world, it’s not good for much. But the minute someone else gets a fax machine, both can be used, and real value is created. The more people with fax machines, the more value there is in the net-work—a utility that greatly exceeds the raw numbers—because each individual user has many more people to whom he can send faxes.” Chapter nine also introduced me to another new topic called spinning when someone tries to change people’s perspective to favor their own. Chapters seven through nine were the chapters that taught me the most about subjects I have never heard before about and was an interesting read.
